Today morning on the Classic FM radio in Kenya i couldn't help hearing a debate about women who started off with men when they had nothing. They loved and treasured them for who they were and they shared the little they had.
Ten years down the line, the men have families with the women and through combined effort they have amassed a lot of wealth. And then out of the blue, the men want to marry a second wife. I couldn't control the emotions that tore inside me as i listened to the women swear and vow that they would stick to the man and would not allow the second woman have their husbands. Others stated that they had nothing to go to, that their youth was gone; no one would look at them again. In cases where children were involved it was harder to let go.
It was clear that the women had not gotten over the fact that Kenya's president Uhuru Kenyatta had signed the new marriage law in April this year which allows men to marry more than one wife without the first wives permission. There is no law in the Kenyan constitution that allows women to be married to multiple men. This law was passed by the members of parliament who more than a third are men.
In addition to this, in the Kenyan constitution there is no law that protects married women against sexual abuse. That makes them prone to marital rape. If a person is ones spouse it is not considered as a sexual offence in Kenya. The women are disadvantaged
I asked my self why a woman's happiness should depend on a man?
I kept questioning myself on what i would do in such a circumstance? and my realisation was that every woman ought to have a foundation before giving herself to a person for a lifetime. May it be that dream that they carry inside them, implementing it; that is their foundation. Depending on ones dream;once your dreams are fulfilled, you will never regret in future because you will still be living your dream. But once a dream is given up,the uncertainties of the future are going to destroy you.
For the women who only realise when it is too late what life has thrown there way, they shouldn't be afraid to try out a new path. Instead of focusing ones energy in things that have ceased to work, they should focus find a new outlet to all there energy. It is never too late to start working on that dream.
what smart women do after a divorce.
